FAQS

What kind of counselling issues do you work with?

I work with any issues that you feel are important. If something is making your life difficult and causing you emotional distress then it can be addressed as part of the counselling process. There are many different reasons why people seek counselling. These may include but will not be limited to:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Low Confidence and Self-Esteem
  • Bereavement and Loss
  • Relationship Issues
  • Divorce
  • Affairs/Betrayals
  • Domestic and Sexual abuse
  • Anger Management
  • Addictions
  • Life Transitions
  • Trauma
  • Cultural Issues
  • Sexual Identity Issues
  • Post traumatic stress disorder
  • Dissociative identity disorder
  • Personality disorders

Will what I say be kept confidential?
Yes. Counselling is confidential under normal circumstances and the only exception would be if I felt there was a serious risk of harm to someone. That includes you or anyone else.

How do I make an appointment?
Appointments can be made directly by using the contact form on my website or by ringing my business number on Darlington 01325 722024. If I’m busy and can’t take your call please leave your name and telephone number and I will contact you as soon as possible. I normally respond to all queries within 24 hours.

How much does it cost?
Based on a recent article in Therapy Today studies show that 65 per cent of clients feel better after seven sessions so it makes sense to budget for at least seven.  A full list of charges can be found under ‘Services’ but generally you can expect to pay £35 per counselling session. Concessions may be offered during less busy time periods. Students undergoing counselling training (as well as senior citizens and those on benefits) are eligible for a discount and pay £25 per session.

How often does the counselling take place and how long do the sessions last?
Counselling sessions normally occur at weekly intervals to begin with and last an hour. Reviews take place every six weeks in order to assess progress.

Do you offer counselling in the evenings or at weekends?
I do offer evening counselling appointments in Darlington Monday through Friday up until 8pm and Saturdays between 10am and 12am.

I do not live in the Darlington area – What do I do?
I offer online and email counselling services to those who live outside the Darlington area or cannot access face-to-face counselling sessions due to problems with mobility. Further information about these and other counselling services (including charges) can be found under ‘Services’.

Can I make an appointment for someone else?
Counselling requires commitment and if a person is too distressed to seek help, he or she may not be in a position to fully benefit from the counselling process. Although it is possible to make an appointment for someone else it would have to be with their full consent.
